Natural light art from "dreizehngrad":
Dresden-based company transforms precious veneer into sustainable designer lamps

Bonn/Dresden. Nowadays, people who furnish their homes attach great importance to comfort, individuality and sustainability. The subject of light is of particular importance in this context, as there is an almost innumerable number of lighting options for the various living spaces in the house and apartment, all of which have their own unique effect on the occupants. An extravagant example of this are noble lights made of veneer. "dreizehngrad" from Dresden has dedicated itself to this natural material, among others.

At dreizehngrad, they love authentic and natural materials. And what can be more natural than the best of the forest? "The veneer lights, which we have been developing and producing since 2010, have a light quality all their own. The warmth that veneer radiates when illuminated from within spreads an incredible sense of well-being," says dreizehngrad CEO Alex Paul Finke. This is due, he says, to the fact that people have been using wood for thousands of years for a wide variety of applications and are simply accustomed to it in a predominantly positive way because of its pleasant feel, good smell and ease of processing. "In combination with light, another component is then added. Shining light through the veneer makes it possible to experience the uniqueness of the material particularly clearly," says Finke. No two sheets of veneer are the same, he says, and each lamp is an individual one-of-a-kind, which is particularly in line with people's desire for self-realization and closeness to nature. "In addition, wood - if it comes from sustainable forestry - is an ecological raw material and thus also has many advantages from the point of view of nature conservation and environmental protection," says the entrepreneur. Ursula Geismann, long-time trend analyst and managing director of the Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN), adds: "With luminaires, there are always two states: on and off. In both states, a luminaire has to function well and can develop quite different effects. Veneer as the main material is always the right choice. Ecological and beautiful." While with other materials the design of the lamp often stands in the foreground, so that it unfolds in the area also in the switched off condition its full effect, veneer provides that already by its mad grain and its broad color spectrum from completely alone. Finke concludes: "The design of the luminaire is then an additional task, but one to which we also devote ourselves with great passion and will continue to do so in the years to come. Working with a truly impressive 'green' material is simply a pleasure." IFN/DS

Initiative Veneer + Nature (IFN)
The Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN) e.V. was founded in 1996 by the German veneer industry and its partners.
